Priest Coyne Interview

For the television program "The Genius of Charles Darwin," naturalist Richard Dawkins interviewed catholic priest George Coyne on the topic of science and religion.

George Coyne is a Jesuit priest, astronomer, and former director of the Vatican Observatory. Coyne has been a vocal opponent of intelligent design, saying that "Intelligent design isn't science even though it pretends to be. If you want to teach it in schools, intelligent design should be taught when religion or cultural history is taught, not science." Coyne has been forthright in criticizing the Church's lukewarm admission of responsibility for its persecution of Galileo in the early seventeenth century.
